Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Let's get this train on the tracks

Here’s a quote from an article on politeness on the web from today’s Guardian newspaper:

‘Online discourse, it is said, is characterised by personal insult, childish mudslinging, meaningless feuds, self-serving digressions, pranksterish vandalism, and empty threats.’

Sound like anywhere you know?

It’s all getting a bit tired and stale around here, with the idiotic trolling and the ‘guess who I am today’ inanities (you think anyone really cares who you are?) and what might be summed up as the ‘what are your top ten favourite Dark Star bass solo’ posts. (There’s a beauty in the 05-11-72 Rotterdam show, since you ask.) How esteemed posters such as William Tell, SDH and GOP have managed to hold on to their tempers and sense of humour I have no idea – I don’t have that sort of level of tolerance, which is by and large why I’ve been keeping quiet of late. I take my hat off to those guys.

Now, getting back to Rotterdam and what we’re really all about. I reckon that show should be lined up for a thirty-fifth anniversary celebration next month. If you feel like taking a sampler from it try ‘The Stranger – Two Souls in Communion’ – the two souls in this instance being Jerry and the Pig – so good you’ll play it twice. Guaranteed. Or I’ll eat that hat.

Jeez Louise...whatta show. May be the best recorded of all Europe '72. And is the Dark Star something to behold. And if that don't trip your trigger, Caution will. Good call, good call!

But I was just planning to list my top ten favorite Dark Star bass solos! Actually, I just have one--Williamsburg 9-11-73. The whole Dark Star is very nice, and the bass solo actually works, transitioning gently into Morning Dew. That said, I need to give 12-6-73 and 11-11-73 another listen(s), as it's been awhile.

My turn to tip my hat to you, Rob. The only thing that gets me mad is a personal attack--and even that should really bug me. As the the mad hatters--what do I care. Such posts say more about the poster than about the forum or its members. I hate this, you suck, the forum blows--well, then why are you posting? I don't watch shows I don't like. I'd be wasting my time to write in to CBS and tell them how crappy their shows are (mind you--I wouldn't know the lineup; I don't watch much t.v.).

Let us conjugate:

I suck
you suck
he, she it sucks
we suck
you suck
they suck

yippee--kay--o
